  • Position: Academic Physician – Emergency Medicine
  • State:  Tennessee
  • Certification and Licensure: BC in Emergency Medicine and Eligible for TN State Medical Licensure
  • Ultrasound, EMS, and Education Background a Plus
  • Facility: Academic Medical Institution | Main Campus: Trauma Emergency Dept. & Medicine Emergency Dept. (covering one of said departments, not both).  
    • Trauma ED:
      • Residents present 24/7
      • 1:1 teaching intensive shift
      • Providers will carry their own panel of patients
    • Medicine ED:
      • No residents present in this unit
      • Work closely with midlevel’s (PAs & NPs)
      • Physicians will have oversight responsibilities, checking out 20% of their patients
      • Providers will cover their teaching and education as well
  • Layout:
    • Rooms allocated for Trauma EE (CCA) – Standard beds with monitoring
    • Hallway beds (Spaces) to help with overflow (Portable monitors are available).
    • 2 Shock trauma rooms (Level 1 and level 2).
    • RAZ (Rapid assessment zone), 3 room area for fast track, generally run by APPs.
    • Main area in the Medicine ER. For more acute patients.
    • Site holding area for Psych patients. Cleared of all equipment.
    • Acute care area for lower acuity.
    • Medicine ER facility rooms.
  • Equipment:
    • Multiple Ultrasound machines (Trauma), 1 in the Medicine ER.
    • Airway equipment including Bronchoscopes, fiber optic scopes, 2 C-Mac towers for video laryngoscope and handheld video laryngoscope on both sides of the department.
    • Hyperbaric treatment (2 faculty dual boarded in EM and Hyperbaric Medicine)
  • Support Staff: Program total of 24 residents, PAs, NPs on staff
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Schedule:
    • 12-hour shifts with FTE set at 13 shifts per month.
      • Willing to consider 10 – 12 shifts per month at a prorated salary
    • Hybrid day/night position.  Anticipate more days than nights but understand that the needs of the group may adjust this on a month-to-month basis. 
    • Open to a full time nocturnist if candidate prefers a night schedule
    • Trauma ER alternates shifts for 24-hour coverage – 8 to 8
    • 1 attending physician and 1 resident are present at the Trauma ER at all times
      • No APP coverage except for the 4 hours on Thursday mornings.
    • Medicine EM coverage is from 8 to 8, 10 to 10, and 8p to 8a
      • APP coverage from 7 to 7, 4 to 4, 9 to 9 and 11 to 11.
      • No 9 to 9 shifts over the weekends.
      • Off-service residents, Medicine, Anesthesia etc., that rotate. 
    • 1.0 FTE is 13 shifts mixed around a Clinical and academic focus.
      • Broken down as 50% trauma and 50% medicine.
      • Providers with specific academic interests (over the allocated 10%) will have that time bought out by the University, essentially shifting the allocation of pay.
      • Providers can take on additional clinical shifts, extending to 15 shifts per month and get paid at a higher rate.
      • Block Schedule – Facility schedules out approximately 2 months ahead. Flexible with scheduling based on providers' needs and try to honor all schedule requests within reason. If a provider would like to work a block schedule, this can be arranged but would be candidate-dependent and open for negotiation.
  • Compensation: $388K based on 2-year contract
